Why Would You Want To Start A Blog?
Provides great exposure
Whether you’re an established brand or a fledging new author starting from scratch. Blogging is a great strategy to cultivate and grow a loyal audience and fanbase.
Become a published author
Can be very therapeutic
If you have tons of ideas, knowledge, or opinions on any given topic that you want to purge from your brain creatively, then blogging would be an ideal method to do so.
Make money working from home
Starting a blog can eventually turn into a very good stream of income if you remain consistent and publish valuable content your readers are searching for. There are many ways to monetize a blog and most of which, won’t cost you any additional effort to increase your streams of revenue. You can easily replace your full-time income if you work a 9 to 5 currently, by implementing the right monetization strategy.
Most importantly, your blog is an online platform that you own, and unlike social media, is an actual digital asset you can eventually sell down the road if you chose to. It is fully controlled by you, so you will never have to worry about being blocked, banned, or having your account shut down.
Once you publish enough content, build your brand, and become more established in your space, it can provide a stable source of revenue for years to come.
How much does a blog cost?
In comparison to other online businesses and brick-and-mortar establishments, you can launch a blog relatively at a low cost. On average, you can look to spend about $100 or less for your first year just starting out.
The purchase of your domain or website name and hosting provider, that will host your custom domain, can be purchased for as cheap as $1 your first year, and web hosting for as little as $5 to $10 per month, which comes out to be about $100.
Of course, this is the bare minimum, and as your business grows, reinvesting your profits back into it with more tools and resources will ensure your blog’s continued growth.
Having a well-optimized mobile-friendly and responsive website will also positively impact user experience which Google now favors heavily when it comes to ranking factors the algorithm uses for blogs in the search engines. Providing quality content will encourage your visitors to come back to your blog to consume more valuable content.
Can I start a blog for free?
Yes, there are website companies that allow you to host on their platform for free like Wix, but I don’t recommend this route at all. Why is that you ask? Here are some reasons why this is a bad idea for most bloggers looking to monetize their website and content:
Limited income-producing capability
There are some select free services that limit the amount of money you can make until you decide to upgrade to a paid plan or increase your tier level.
Free services do not allow you to use advertising companies’ ad placements on your website, which greatly limits the number of different ways you will be able to monetize your blog.
Quality customer service
Hosting companies, just like every other for-profit business, are here to make money. So any customer of theirs that is paying for any of their paid services will automatically have priority over another customer that isn’t contributing towards their bottom line.
With a free or basic plan, you can only expect to receive just enough support to keep your website afloat. You will have limited bandwidth, storage space, backup protocols, and little to no customer support.
To top it all off, you will be bombarded with offers and ads to upgrade to a paid plan constantly. Some free services even place their own promotional ads on your own blog, which not only leaves your site looking very unprofessional, but can become part of an undesirable user experience.
Upgrading can be a pain
If you ever decide to upgrade to a better service, the migration of your site isn’t always a smooth process. You could potentially lose all of your work. If you end up hiring a professional to do it for you, it could end up costing you hundreds of dollars.
How long will it take to generate income from my blog?
It really depends on your work ethic and content strategy. If you treat blogging as a business and not a hobby, it will pay you like a business. Stay consistent and create quality, helpful content that your audience is searching for, in the first 6 to 8 months you can expect to reach at least a few hundred dollars.
Around the 12-month mark, if you’re still posting consistent, targeted, quality content, growing will become more exponential over a shorter period of time. By this point, you should have or at least come close to the $1,000 mark.
It’s important to understand that each of your published articles or posts won’t reach its full potential of maturation until it reaches 24 months of age on your site.
So, if you are getting a lot of rapid growth during your first year of publishing content, that is a fantastic sign and means that you are doing things right by providing underserved content and ranking for lower competition keywords.

What if I don’t know what to blog about?
Just start writing! Get those creative juices flowing. It’s alright if your content lacks structure at first. The beautiful thing about blogging is that you can always go back and edit your posts.
The more you write, the more you’ll find what naturally comes to the forefront of your mind when focusing on a particular topic.
If your focus switches to something else, that’s fine too. The creative process can be very messy and is far from streamlined in the beginning. The more you publish, over time, the more refined your brainstorming and creating process will become.
