Kindness is the foundation of a happy life.
Kind people are happier, healthier, and more successful than their less-kind counterparts. But when we’re faced with adversity in our lives, it can be hard to remain kind.
There are a few things you can do to help you stay kind when things get tough. Try to remember that everyone is going through their own struggles. Nobody has life all figured out and we all make mistakes.

Be aware of your words and actions. Thoughts become things and our words can literally set our intentions in motion.
Be careful not to say or do anything that could hurt someone else. Finally, be compassionate and understanding. Listen to what others are saying and try to see things from their perspective.
Here are 4 more non-negotiable principles to live by:
1. Find your sense of humor
When you are able to laugh at any situation life throws at you, it becomes easier for you to cope, adapt, and overcome anything. Mindset is everything.
If you can’t find anything amusing in your situation, try looking back on all that has happened so far and see that there have been some good moments as well.
2. Be mentally prepared
Accept that the situation is happening and that you are not in control. This doesn’t mean you are happy with what is happening, but you see the potential for growth. Refuse to give up, no matter what. Have a purpose in mind and maintain a positive mindset. Believe in your capabilities and you’re halfway there.
Adversity offers valuable insights, so be grateful for that.
3. Take stock of all you’ve been through already
It can be helpful to remember all the other things you have been through and coped with to remind yourself that you have what it takes to get through this as well. Draw from your past experiences and know that you will make it through this too. Embrace adversity as a chance for opportunity.
4. Believe in your capabilities
We all possess what it takes to overcome almost anything. A little bit of self-belief can go a very long way. Acknowledge your weak points, but focus on your strengths–and double down on them. This will help you to stay strong and motivated. Believe that you can get through it and you will, eventually.
When you’re kind and remain grateful in the face of adversity, you set an example for others and help make the world a better place. Hold the door, pay it forward, and volunteer for a charity or non-profit organization–it will only enrich your life and those whom you surround yourself with.
